Our skincare development process
The story begins with the rare Maydi resin, harvested in the Sanaag region of Somaliland. For generations, this highly prized resin has been used for its healing and strengthening properties. At MAYDI+™, we honour this heritage through FairWild-certified sourcing, protecting biodiversity and supporting local communities who have cultivated this resin for centuries. But our mission has always been to elevate this ancestral ingredient beyond tradition and into a new era of scientifically validated, high-performance skincare. Through advanced extraction, lots of research and testing (non animal), green chemistry, we created BFE-01, our exclusive bioactive and the foundation of the Sanavive system. We harvest and import this extract to FairWild standards and process it in the UK. Our expert lab combined the BFE-01 with powerful actives and natural botanicals that produced outstanding skincare results, which we tested through clinical and consumer trials to be confident and to have the proven results. The test data results were impressive so we were happy to launch the skincare. You’ll find powerful actives such as peptides, retinoids, ceramides, arctic microalgae enzymes to name just a few of our performance ingredients which together and combines with our biologists understanding of the skin work to protect the skin’s architectural integrity.
What is BFE-01?
BFE-01 is not a typical plant extract, it is a breakthrough active with its own INCI designation and years of clinical research. It took two years to register BFE-01 on the INCI list, and 10 years of scientific research proving BFE-01 (Boswellia frereana Resin Extract) stops the breakdown of skin collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, is an MNMP9 inhibitor and interrupts the inflammatory cascade that accelerates ageing, and supports the skin’s structural integrity over time.
